The Integrated Control Center (ILS) dispatched the fire departments of Sippersfeld, Breunigweiler, and Winnweiler to a traffic accident involving a trapped person on the K 39 between Alsenbrück-Langmeil and Sippersfeld. Initial reports indicated a car lying on its side with three occupants. The first responders on the scene were two firefighters from the Imsbach Fire Department, who were in the vicinity at the time of the alert and drove directly to the scene. Shortly thereafter, the first responder unit from the Münchweiler branch of the German Red Cross (DRK) arrived.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders found a vehicle that had veered off the road in a single-vehicle accident and come to rest on its passenger side in the roadside ditch. The driver of the vehicle was able to free himself from the vehicle with the help of bystanders and was initially attended to by first responders. The passenger remained inside the car and was unable to free himself from his predicament on his own. After a brief interview, it became clear that the vehicle had only these two occupants, rather than the three initially reported. The Sippersfeld Fire Department, which arrived shortly thereafter, immediately began rescuing the passenger and was subsequently supported by the Winnweiler Fire Department. To do this, they first used sections of a ladder to create a safe access route across the sloping terrain and secured the crashed vehicle against tipping over with the help of another ladder section and tension straps. At the same time, the accident scene was secured against oncoming traffic, and fire safety measures were implemented. The technical rescue was carried out in close coordination with the fire department’s medical officer and other emergency medical services personnel, who provided continuous care for the patient. Firefighters removed the vehicle’s windshield and then carefully extracted the patient from the wreckage on a spine board through this opening. While keeping the patient warm, a chain of responders safely transported him down the slope to the ambulance stretcher, where he was subsequently treated in the ambulance.

A total of three ambulances (RTW), one emergency physician response vehicle (NEF), and one rescue helicopter (RTH) were on the scene. The patients were each transported by ground to a suitable hospital for further care. The police were at the scene to document the accident. After the rescue operations were completed, firefighters disconnected the vehicle’s battery and checked it for leaking fluids. Once the emergency equipment had been packed up, a brief debriefing was held before all personnel returned to their stations.
