Children's & Youth Fire Department

The Münchweiler Youth Fire Department was founded on April 27, 1981, making it one of the first youth fire departments in the Donnersberg district.

At the urging of several young people from the village (Gunter Bayer, Iris Milster, Roger Peschla, Thomas Müller, Uwe Martin, Klaus Born, Stephan Laiendecker, Klaus Dieter Wenkenbach, Sven Gerber), Hans-Jürgen Bayer founded the youth group as its first youth leader. In June 1981, he was joined by Rudi Königsamen. After two years of rigorous training, the young people listed above earned the Performance Badge in Rockenhausen on November 12, 1983—the first group in the Donnersberg district to include a girl. The 1983 cohort achieved an excellent result, scoring 19.3 out of a possible 20 points.

Since then, the youth fire brigade in Münchweiler has consisted of about 30 children and teenagers, who are divided into two groups.

Then just come visit us on one of our practice nights. In our Group 1 (Bambinis), in addition to firefighting training in the youth fire department, we’ll also play games, run around, do crafts, and much more.

Are you 10 years old or older?

Then join our Group 2! Here, you’ll get a comprehensive look at the fire department. We’ll conduct training sessions on firefighting equipment and fittings. Our goal is to prepare you to earn the Performance Badge and, consequently, to transition into the active department. But we won’t just focus on firefighting—you’ll also learn the basics of first aid.

The year with the Münchweiler Youth Fire Department kicks off with our “Christmas Tree Collection Drive” in early January. As you might guess, we collect discarded Christmas trees in Münchweiler in exchange for a small donation.

Carnival! Of course, the Youth Fire Department gets to celebrate, too. So we kick off the carnival season with our carnival party at the fire station.

It’s finally time for our annual youth fire department camp with the youth fire departments of the Winnweiler municipal association, which will take place in Imsbach over the long Corpus Christi weekend. Every year, the four-day program—running from Thursday through Sunday—features new and exciting activities.

As mentioned at the beginning, you can earn the Youth Fire Department Achievement Badge starting at age 15. The test is administered at the county level and is considered an unofficial completion of the Youth Fire Department program, since young people can transition to the active fire department at age 16.

The Jugendflamme consists of three levels and is the "junior" achievement badge for younger members. The first level can be earned after just one year of membership in the youth fire department.

We can't miss out on some exercise! On our fall hiking day, we'll explore the surrounding area and even trek over rough and rugged terrain.

What would Halloween be without a great party with costumes and candy? That's right—it wouldn't be Halloween. That's why we're heading to the youth disco at the fire station.

Last but not least, we’d like to wrap up the year with you at our Christmas party, complete with homemade cookies.
