About Us

Our new fire station opened in March 2026 as the first of three new buildings in the Winnweiler municipal association. Previously, we were housed in a building just a few meters away from the new facility, where space was significantly more limited. Now, our 35-member fire department has a vehicle garage with three parking spaces, a training room with a kitchenette, and spacious changing rooms for our firefighters.

The fire department currently has 35 members, including two women, and 22 trained breathing apparatus operators.

Have you ever thought about joining the Steinbach am Donnersberg Volunteer Fire Department? We are run entirely by volunteers. That’s why we’re always looking for interested and dedicated new members.

What can we offer?

If you are between the ages of 16 and 63, live or work in Steinbach, and are physically and mentally fit, you can become an active member of the fire department.

After completing basic training, you’ll receive a pager and can get involved in public safety and rescue efforts—helping people and animals in distress, responding to fires, traffic accidents, environmental hazards, and many other emergencies. Working as part of a team, you’ll use fascinating equipment, experience genuine camaraderie, and feel the wonderful sense of accomplishment that comes from tackling unexpected challenges.

Once you have gained experience in the field, you can participate in additional training programs, such as those for fire engine operators, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) wearers, and squad leaders—the first level of leadership. Incidentally, most of these courses take place on weekends (Friday evening and Saturday morning through early afternoon) and can therefore generally be attended by working professionals without any problems.

Membership is completely free of charge for you; personal equipment is provided by the municipal association, which oversees the fire department.

What are your responsibilities?

Whenever your circumstances allow, you must report for duty. To ensure you are prepared for the wide range of firefighting operations, various response scenarios are practiced every Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., except on holidays. You can find the schedule in the navigation bar under “Duty Roster.” To ensure you can meet the demands of an actual emergency, you should participate in the vast majority of these drills.

In addition, you should help out at occasional events, such as the Residenzfest.
