Training and Continuing Education Organization
All active firefighters typically complete several different training courses and continuing education programs throughout their careers. To be eligible for operational duty, firefighters must complete at least the basic training and the radio communications course. The core training content is taught at the county level in the corresponding courses. These courses are held alternately at various locations throughout the Donnersberg district, where participants from different fire departments are trained together.
District Training:
- Basic Training (Firefighter, Part 1) - 70 hours*
- Radio Operator - 16 hours
- Respiratory Protection Equipment User - 25 hours
- Machine Operator - 35 hours
- Squad Leader - 35 hours
- Wearer of Chemical Protective Suits (CPS) - 16 hours
* The number of hours listed represents a minimum requirement
Leadership training courses starting at the group leader level are no longer conducted at the district level but at the state level. For this purpose, participants attend the Academy of the State Office for Fire and Disaster Protection (LfBK) of Rhineland-Palatinate in Koblenz. In addition, numerous specialized training courses are offered here, such as those for equipment technicians, technical rescue, and command support.
Registration for all training courses is coordinated and monitored by the administrative office. Furthermore, the corresponding training certificates are collected afterward and documented in the digital personnel files. This ensures that accurate information regarding the training status of fire department personnel is available at all times.
In addition to the training courses, on-site training also takes place throughout the year during the training evenings of the various fire departments in the Winnweiler municipal association. These are absolutely essential given the enormously broad scope of responsibilities of the volunteer fire department. Furthermore, this framework allows for continuous adaptation to new challenges. The administrative office also supports these training activities at the request of the units. Furthermore, it ensures that all units include the necessary training components in their duty schedules.
