The Winnweiler Fire Department was initially alerted to a fuel leak. However, it soon became clear that the incident was a traffic accident at the intersection of the L 401 and L 390, in which two vehicles had collided. Consequently, the incident classification was upgraded to “traffic accident—circumstances unclear,” whereupon the Lohnsfeld and Wartenberg-Rohrbach units were also dispatched.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found two passenger cars, but no one was trapped or confined inside them. A total of three people were involved; one of them, who sustained minor injuries, was later transported to a hospital by ambulance. The fire department initially secured the accident scene against oncoming traffic and ensured that the vehicles were protected from fire. At the same time, the affected individuals were cared for by medically trained fire department personnel until the emergency medical services arrived. Furthermore, the vehicles involved in the accident were checked for leaking fluids, but none were found.

After the police completed their accident report, both vehicles were removed from the L 401 and debris was cleared from the roadway, allowing the road to be reopened to traffic. The L 390 toward Winnweiler remained closed until one of the vehicles involved in the accident was towed away by a towing company.

In light of recent events, we would like to ask all road users to follow the designated detour route in the event of a road closure and to drive past the accident scene quickly in order to avoid traffic congestion!
