Report

In Winnweiler, a resident alerted the fire department because her carbon monoxide detector had gone off and, according to her, there was a strong smell of gas. In addition to the Winnweiler unit, the hazardous materials team leader and the measurement equipment vehicle (GW-Mess) from the Göllheim municipal association were also dispatched. The police were also at the scene.

Upon arrival, it became clear that all residents of the single-family home had already evacuated the building. They were subsequently treated by emergency medical services, which had also been alerted. A fire department crew wearing breathing apparatus and equipped with a multi-gas detector entered the building. The firefighters were also able to measure a CO concentration and, shortly thereafter, located the source of the fire. Among the paper waste were cardboard boxes that had been set alight and were now smoldering. The team wearing breathing apparatus then extinguished the burning materials and subsequently ventilated the building. The GW-Mess unit, which had arrived in the meantime, finally checked the CO levels throughout the building and cleared it for reoccupation. The operation was then concluded.
