The police requested that the fire department open the door because a resident of Neuhemsbach had not been reachable by family members for three days. Neuhemsbach falls within the jurisdiction of the Enkenbach-Alsenborn municipal fire department; however, due to its geographical proximity and the fact that it is equipped with a door-opening kit, the Sippersfeld unit is initially alerted to this call as well. Once on the scene, it quickly became clear that there was no need to force the door open. The resident was safe and sound and had likely not noticed the attempts to contact him due to a malfunction in his hearing aid.
