While the traffic accident on the A 63 (H 003) was still unfolding, another weather-related traffic accident involving a passenger car and a truck occurred on the B 48 between Winnweiler and Hochstein. A vehicle that had remained at the Winnweiler station was dispatched from there to the scene, as were the units from Imsbach and Münchweiler. The vehicles from the Winnweiler unit that had already been dispatched drove from the scene on the highway to the subsequent incident. In addition, the Schweisweiler Fire Department was called in from the direction of Hochstein to assist with safety measures.

Upon arrival at the scene, it became clear that both drivers had already managed to free themselves from their vehicles. However, the driver of the passenger car sustained injuries and was treated by emergency medical services before being transported to an appropriate hospital. The truck driver appeared to be uninjured. Firefighters initially closed the B48 completely and, after a thorough assessment of the scene, determined that the truck’s fuel tank had been damaged in the accident and was now leaking large amounts of diesel. The fuel was then collected using appropriate trays, and a temporary seal was applied to the tank to prevent further leakage. Additionally, the fuel that had already leaked out was absorbed using oil absorbent. Since it was not possible to tow the truck with such a large amount of diesel in a damaged tank, the hazardous materials response vehicle (GW-G) from the Rockenhausen municipal association was called in to pump out the contents of the fuel tank.

In addition, the police were on the scene to document the accident and contact a towing company. Because the median strip had been contaminated with diesel, the Lower Water Authority was also notified. Meanwhile, due to the general weather conditions—including snow and black ice—and the resulting operational situation, the Münchweiler Fire Department’s medium-sized fire engine (MLF) was dispatched to ensure basic fire protection at the Winnweiler site. Later, the fire department’s security units at the scene were relieved by the road maintenance authority.
