The Mayen-Koblenz district requested assistance from the wildfire response team in the Donnersberg district to help fight a wildfire. An area of about 50 hectares was on fire at the scene.
The fire had already broken out on Friday afternoon (Aug. 14) and was brought under control by local emergency responders after a few hours. The mop-up operations over the weekend proved to be lengthy and exhausting due to the numerous hot spots in the forest floor and vegetation, which is why assistance from outside the area was needed.
A total of 16 firefighters from various units in the Winnweiler administrative district set out for Langscheid, where they assisted with the mop-up operations throughout the day.
