Report

A car fire was reported on the A 63 heading toward Kaiserslautern, between the Göllheim and Winnweiler interchanges. Due to the ongoing construction project, the fire departments in Göllheim, Kirchheimbolanden, and Winnweiler were alerted.

It turned out that a small van had caught fire near the Mobotix company, and it was also carrying a fuel tank with a capacity of 1,000 liters on its cargo bed. The driver was able to escape from the vehicle in time. The fire was brought under control by a crew wearing breathing apparatus using a C-nozzle and foam.

The A 63 had to be completely closed for the duration of the work, which is why the Enkenbach Fire Department was called in to divert traffic at the Winnweiler interchange. The Kirchheimbolanden Fire Department took over traffic diversion in the opposite direction at the Göllheim interchange. In addition, the Imsbach unit was called in to inspect the L 401 below the highway bridge, as it was unclear whether any spilled fuel might have flowed down through the drainage shafts there. The investigation revealed only small amounts, which were deemed harmless, so no action was required on the part of the fire department.

On the A 63, the small van was quickly removed from the roadway once the firefighting efforts were complete, allowing the highway to be reopened to traffic shortly thereafter.
