Report
The fire departments of Winnweiler, Enkenbach, and Göllheim were dispatched to a wildfire behind the guardrail on the A 63 in the direction of Kaiserslautern, between the Winnweiler and Sembach interchanges. The Winnweiler Fire Department’s TLF 4000 could already see heavy smoke while en route and was therefore able to proceed by sight. It turned out that the scene of the incident was located in a meadow near Lohnsfeld between the A 63 and the L 401.
The two tanker fire trucks from the Winnweiler Fire Department immediately began extinguishing the fire using their water cannons in “pump and roll” mode, thereby quickly halting its spread. As part of the follow-up extinguishing efforts, the two tanker fire trucks were refilled with water by the support vehicle equipped with a water supply unit, allowing the affected area to be thoroughly doused to prevent the fire from reigniting. The property owner assisted with the efforts using his tractor equipped with a water tank. The entire area was monitored from the air using a drone with thermal imaging, as well as with a second thermal imaging camera on the ground. This ensured that no dangerous temperatures remained.
Using a drone, the burned area was estimated at approximately 2,700 m². The Göllheim and Enkenbach fire departments were not needed and were able to stand down.
