The Börrstadt, Steinbach, and Winnweiler fire departments were alerted to a burning trailer loaded with hay in Börrstadt. The first responders from the Börrstadt Fire Department confirmed the incident report and immediately began fighting the fire. The agricultural trailer was loaded with a total of 14 round bales and was already fully engulfed in flames upon arrival. The tractor that had been pulling the trailer had been unhitched by the owner beforehand and therefore did not catch fire.

First, a team wearing self-contained breathing apparatus was deployed to contain the fire on the trailer. In addition, two hoses were used to protect the surrounding vegetation, as the fire had already partially spread to it. The water supply was provided by tanker trucks from the Steinbach and Winnweiler fire departments.

To prevent the fire from spreading further to the vegetation, the incident commander ultimately decided to move the trailer to an open area with a non-flammable surface. There, the hay was then unloaded from the trailer using a telescopic loader. The trailer was then extinguished, and the hay was burned off in a controlled manner with the aid of a fan. The burn-off was monitored by the Börrstadt Fire Department and the swap body vehicle (WLF) equipped with the water supply roll-off container from the Winnweiler unit, and final mop-up operations were carried out. The operation was then concluded.
