The Winnweiler, Börrstadt, and Steinbach fire departments were alerted to smoke developing outdoors on the L 401 between Alsenbrück-Langmeil and Börrstadt. Due to the unclear location information, the various vehicles initially conducted a wide-area search of the section. Since the responders could detect neither smoke nor the smell of fire, the Fire Department Operations Center (FEZ) attempted to contact the person who reported the incident. It was not possible to establish contact, whereupon all units aborted the operation.
