Report

In Sippersfeld, the fire alarm at the elementary school had gone off. The alarm first notifies the on-call staff at the public works yard and is not directly linked to the integrated control center. The public works department employee first notified the Sippersfeld Fire Department by phone—since they had sufficient personnel at the fire station due to a May Day celebration—and then drove to the scene himself.

The Sippersfeld Fire Department arrived at the scene a few minutes later and detected the smell of smoke, prompting them to immediately alert the Winnweiler and Breunigweiler fire departments. A crew from the Sippersfeld Fire Department immediately entered the building wearing self-contained breathing apparatus and carrying a small fire extinguisher. At the same time, a firefighting operation was set up outside. It turned out that an inverter in the photovoltaic system’s utility room had caught fire, which had caused smoke to develop and triggered the fire alarm there. The building was subsequently de-energized, and the affected room was inspected using a thermal imaging camera. The fire had not spread.

The building was then thoroughly inspected and ventilated. In addition, the turntable ladder was positioned to inspect the roof and the PV system installed there, which had already been shut down via a circuit breaker. After no abnormalities were found, the responsible specialist company was notified to replace the affected inverter.
