Report

A forest fire broke out on Sunday afternoon along the A 63 near Kaiserslautern; according to an initial report, it covered an area of approximately 2,000 square meters. Firefighters from Enkenbach and Kaiserslautern immediately began fighting the blaze. However, due to the prevailing wind, the fire continued to spread and quickly doubled in size to an area of about 4,000 square meters. As the situation developed, numerous tanker trucks (TLF) were called in to ensure a sufficient supply of water for firefighting. The alert level was ultimately raised to 3.

Initially, the HLF 1, the TLF 4000, the wildfire TLF, and the swap body truck with the water supply roll-off container were dispatched from the Winnweiler municipal association. Later, the tanker fire trucks from Imsbach and Steinbach were also called in. Due to the large number of personnel and vehicles from the Winnweiler municipal association already deployed, the fire departments in Börrstadt, Sippersfeld, and Münchweiler were also alerted to staff their respective fire stations and thus ensure basic fire protection.

Due to the smoke, the A 63 was completely closed in both directions between the Sembach and Kaiserslautern-Zentrum interchanges for the duration of the response efforts. Firefighting operations continued into the night. The total area burned is estimated at approximately 26,000 m².
