Report

The Lohnsfeld and Winnweiler fire departments were dispatched to investigate a fire in an apartment where, according to the caller, something had been burning, leaving the entire place heavily soot-covered. The first responders found the apartment door already open, with heavy soot buildup and a slight sensation of heat emanating from it. Consequently, a team wearing self-contained breathing apparatus entered the apartment to search it, as it was unclear whether anyone was still inside.

During the search, it was determined that one room in the apartment had been completely gutted by fire. The lead team also discovered an unresponsive person who, however, already showed clear signs of death, which was confirmed by the emergency medical services that arrived shortly thereafter. Another team wearing breathing apparatus checked the remaining rooms to ensure that no other people were present. In coordination with the police, the fire department also took over the task of illuminating the scene.

After the criminal investigation unit arrived, the scene was handed over to them.
