B 012 - Smoking Waste Compactor in Rockenhausen

Incident Number:B 012
Date:08.01.2026
Alerting:14:53
End of operation:15:05
Incident keyword:Smoke Coming from a Warehouse in Rockenhausen

Report

Due to smoke filling the warehouse of a discount store in Rockenhausen, several units from the Nordpfälzer Land Municipal Association Fire Department were initially dispatched. Upon arrival, the firefighters determined that the entire supermarket was also filled with smoke and subsequently raised the alert level from B2 to B3. The people inside the store had already been evacuated.

Due to the increase in the alarm level, a high-capacity fire engine (HLF) and the turntable ladder from the Winnweiler Fire Department, as well as the Donnersberg District drone unit, were called in for support and proceeded to the scene. After a team wearing self-contained breathing apparatus conducted a reconnaissance, it became clear that a smoking trash compactor next to the building was the source of the smoke. The trash compactor was subsequently separated from the trash container to gain access to the source of the fire. It turned out that the burning material was paper, which was subsequently extinguished. The drone unit provided aerial support using a thermal imaging camera to inspect the market’s roof covering, in order to rule out the possibility that heat had caused a fire there. Furthermore, the building was ventilated and subsequently cleared of any remaining hazards by trained personnel from the measurement equipment vehicle (GW-Mess) of the Nordpfälzer Land Municipal Association. The additional personnel from the Winnweiler Fire Department were not needed at the scene and were therefore able to return to the station without taking any further action.
