The Winnweiler Fire Department was alerted to a report of smoke in an apartment building. Upon arrival, it quickly became clear that a resident had noticed smoke in her apartment. She acted prudently, leaving the apartment with her toddler and then calling emergency services.
During the initial assessment by first responders, it was determined that a plastic object on the stove had caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and the object removed from the apartment. Subsequently, both the affected apartment and the stairwell were cleared of smoke using a ventilation unit.
As a precaution, the mother, her toddler, and a neighbor were examined by the emergency medical services that had been called to the scene and were taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
