Report

On the A 63 highway heading toward Kaiserslautern, a traffic accident involving a passenger car occurred between the Winnweiler and Sembach interchanges. The emergency call indicated that the vehicle was on its roof, but that all occupants had already managed to free themselves from the vehicle. The Winnweiler Fire Department subsequently responded to the scene with its rescue unit.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the vehicle involved in the accident on the shoulder. The car was standing upright on its tires, facing away from the direction of travel, and was not, as previously reported, upside down. The family of four was outside the vehicle and was being attended to by an ambulance that had already arrived. Subsequently, two additional ambulances and an emergency physician response vehicle arrived at the scene. Firefighters first secured the accident site from oncoming traffic by closing the right lane. They also checked the vehicle for leaking fluids and ensured fire safety measures were in place.

The vehicle occupants appeared uninjured but were nevertheless transported by emergency medical services to a suitable hospital for a final examination. The highway patrol was on the scene to investigate the accident. In addition, a towing company and the highway maintenance department were called to the scene. Firefighters secured the scene until the tow truck could remove the vehicle and assisted in clearing debris from the roadway. Subsequently, the right lane was reopened to traffic.
