Passersby reported to the Integrated Control Center (ILS) a strong, acrid odor they had noticed between Imsbach and Röderhof and could not identify. As a result, the fire departments in Imsbach and Winnweiler, as well as the Donnersberg District’s measurement equipment vehicle, were alerted.
The units combed the specified area with several vehicles to locate the source of the odor. At one point, the responders detected an odor resembling that of fertilizer, but it gradually dissipated. After an extensive search yielded no results, the operation was called off. Since there was thick fog that day, it can be assumed that the odor lingered near the ground for an unusually long time as a result and was therefore more noticeable than usual.
