Report

A traffic accident occurred on the A 63 in the direction of Kaiserslautern between the Winnweiler and Sembach interchanges; it was initially reported to involve one truck and four passenger cars. The Winnweiler Fire Department was subsequently dispatched to the scene. The fire departments in Enkenbach, Otterberg, and Kaiserslautern were also alerted.

Upon arrival at the scene, it became clear that this was a single-vehicle accident involving a truck and that no other vehicles were involved. The truck had come to a stop after colliding with the guardrails multiple times in the area between the shoulder and the right lane. When the fire department arrived, several riot police vehicles and a rescue helicopter were already on the scene. The A 63 was initially closed entirely, and a detour was set up at the Winnweiler exit. The driver was examined by the helicopter’s emergency physician while firefighters inspected the truck with its refrigerated trailer for damage. During this inspection, leaking fluids were detected near the tractor unit and were absorbed using absorbent material.

The rescue helicopter left the scene after the driver had been examined. The roadway was then completely cleared of debris and spilled fluids, allowing the left lane to be reopened to traffic shortly thereafter. The police then secured the accident scene until a recovery company arrived. The fire department was able to conclude its operation.
