A defective cylinder valve caused a chlorine gas leak at the swimming pool in Winnweiler. Employees noticed the leak while performing routine tasks and had already taken the appropriate initial measures. The door to the affected room and the gas cylinder itself were closed when the fire department arrived, and there were no longer any people inside the building.
On site, a team wearing breathing apparatus and equipped with a measuring device entered the room to measure the concentration of chlorine gas. In addition, ventilation measures were taken and the gas alarm system was reset. The ventilation measures reduced the gas concentration to a level where it no longer posed a danger. To prevent another leak, the defective cylinder was also replaced.
Once the measures were completed, the swimming pool was reopened, and the firefighters concluded their operation.
