In Winnweiler, residents of an apartment building were concerned that there might be a smell of gas in the building, so they called emergency services. The Winnweiler Fire Department was alerted and dispatched several vehicles to the scene. In addition, based on the incident description, the hazardous materials team leader and the Donnersberg District’s measurement equipment vehicle (GW-Mess) from the municipality of Göllheim were also dispatched. The police and an ambulance also responded to the scene.
On site, the Winnweiler Fire Department initially conducted measurements using a multi-gas detector, but these did not reveal any concerning levels. The firefighters also did not detect any odor that would have indicated a gas leak. After the GW-Mess unit arrived, the crew conducted further measurements, which also showed no gas concentrations. Following consultation with the gas utility, which had arrived at the scene in the meantime, it was thus determined that there was no danger to the residents. All personnel were then able to conclude the operation.
