Report
On the night of April 23, 2025, the drone unit was dispatched to Rittersheim to assist in a search for a missing person. This followed a traffic accident that had been reported via the “eCall” automatic emergency call system. When the first responders arrived at the scene of the accident, it turned out that no one was left in the vehicle.
Since it could not be ruled out that the person involved was injured and had left the scene of the accident, a large-scale search operation was launched immediately. The drone unit took over the aerial reconnaissance of the surrounding area. At around 3:30 a.m., the search was continued by a police helicopter, after which the fire department personnel were able to conclude their operation and begin their return trip.
Notice to the Public:
Even in seemingly minor traffic accidents—starting at an impact speed of about 30 km/h—internal injuries can occur. These are often not immediately apparent, as they may initially be masked by shock. In such cases, loss of consciousness or life-threatening conditions may develop later on. Therefore, a medical evaluation should always be conducted after an accident, even if no external injuries are visible.
