On the L 401, at the intersection with the L 390 in the direction of Winnweiler, a traffic accident occurred involving two vehicles, each with one person inside. The fire departments from Lohnsfeld, Münchweiler, and Winnweiler were subsequently dispatched to the scene.
At the scene, emergency responders first secured the accident site from oncoming traffic by completely closing the L 401 from the direction of Lohnsfeld and diverting traffic from both Winnweiler and Langmeil. One of the two people involved was trapped inside her vehicle and had to be freed using hydraulic rescue equipment. The subsequent rescue was carried out with care in coordination with the emergency medical services, who then treated the patient and transported her to an appropriate hospital. The driver of the other car was able to free themselves from the vehicle on their own but was nevertheless examined by emergency medical services. Firefighters continued to inspect the vehicles for leaking fluids and absorbed several oil spills using absorbent material.
The police were also at the scene and took charge of documenting the accident and calling a tow truck. By chance, the road maintenance department was also at the scene and set up a warning sign due to the oil spill. Once the accident report was completed, the vehicles involved were moved to one lane so that the intersection could be reopened. The road maintenance department took over further safety measures, after which the fire department was able to conclude its operation.
