The Winnweiler Fire Department was alerted to an unexplained smoke development coming from a building, prompting the HLF 1 to be dispatched first. Once on the scene, it quickly became clear that the cause was the electrical subpanel, where a distinct crackling sound could be heard. The crew then de-energized the system and realized shortly afterward that the damage had been caused by a mouse.
The tenant of the house was informed that the sub-distribution panel could only be put back into service by a licensed electrician. The firefighters were then able to conclude their operation.
