On Sunday afternoon, the Winnweiler Fire Department was alerted to smoke coming from a building in Winnweiler. The fire crew then responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, the firefighters noticed a slight amount of smoke coming from the area of the roof ridge. They used the turntable ladder to inspect the area, but were initially unable to identify the cause. The attic apartment below was vacant and locked, so the fire department was unable to open it without causing damage. Shortly thereafter, however, the building’s owner arrived on the scene with a master key. Firefighters inspected the entire building as well as the adjacent apartment in the neighboring building for a possible cause of the smoke, but were unable to identify one. The noticeable odor suggested that a barbecue fire in the vicinity might have been the cause.
The police were also on the scene. Once the operation was complete, the scene was handed over to them.
