Report

The Lohnsfeld, Wartenberg-Rohrbach, and Winnweiler fire departments were alerted to smoke coming from a building at the Schmitterhof. The alarm report already indicated that the smoke was caused by a chimney.

Once on the scene, the firefighters were informed by the tenants of the apartment above that they had lit their fireplace that day. It turned out that the heat generated inside the chimney had caused a smoldering fire in the chimney cap on the first floor of the building. Consequently, the fire department removed the cap as well as smoldering debris from inside the chimney. In addition, the responsible chimney sweep was notified, and the tenants of the apartment above were informed that the fireplace must not be used for the time being.

In addition to the fire department, the standby ambulance from the Münchweiler branch of the German Red Cross (DRK) was also on the scene. The crew examined all affected residents for carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. However, no abnormalities were found.
