On Monday evening, the Winnweiler and Imsbach fire departments were called to a hedge fire in the Hochstein neighborhood of Winnweiler. Upon arrival, the fire crews confirmed the report. A section of thuja hedges about 2 meters wide was on fire between a residential building and the adjacent playground.
The Imsbach Fire Department immediately began firefighting operations by deploying the “rapid-response” capability of their tanker truck. In addition, the crew of the Winnweiler Fire Department’s rescue and firefighting vehicle (HLF 1) used a fire nozzle. The fire was quickly brought under control. The hedge was then monitored using a thermal imaging camera and continued to be doused with water until the risk of reignition could be ruled out.
As the operation progressed, the police were called in, and the scene was handed over to them once the firefighting efforts were complete.
