Report
Fire departments from Steinbach, Börrstadt, and Winnweiler were dispatched to respond to reports of smoke outdoors between Steinbach and the Hahnweilerhof. The first responders from the Steinbach Fire Department quickly determined that it was, in fact, a fire in the wooded area.
Forest floor, underbrush, and a pile of wood burned over an area of 200 m². The firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire using so-called wildfire backpacks and a fire nozzle. In addition, wildfire beaters were used to smother smaller hot spots. The roof monitor on the tanker fire truck from Steinbach was also used during the firefighting operations. The fire was thus brought under control quickly; however, the mop-up operations were time-consuming, as it was necessary to rule out the possibility of any remaining embers in the ground or in the wood. These efforts were supported from the air by the drone unit using a thermal imaging camera.
During the operation, the responsible district forester was informed of the situation, and the police were called; they arrived at the scene and began an investigation. A total of nearly 40 firefighters were on the scene. Once the extensive mop-up operations were completed, the operation was concluded.
