On Monday afternoon, the fire department was called to a reported vegetation fire on the outskirts of Alsenz in the direction of Kalkofen. Upon arrival, the situation was confirmed—dry vegetation had caught fire over an area of approximately 300–500 m².
Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of local emergency responders, the fire was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading to surrounding areas or nearby homes. For additional support, the swap-body truck (WLF) with a 10,000-liter water tank and the drone unit were called in from Winnweiler. Since the flames were already under control, the WLF was able to begin its return trip while the operation was still underway.
The drone unit was deployed with a thermal imaging camera to locate potential hot spots from the air and enable targeted follow-up firefighting efforts. In addition, the drone was used to document the scene—the footage will be provided to the police, who are currently investigating the incident on suspicion of arson.
