Report
A vehicle caught fire in Schweisweiler; it was located in the immediate vicinity of a residential building and a barn. As a result, the fire departments of Schweisweiler, Imsbach, and Winnweiler were alerted and responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, the report was confirmed, as the car was already fully engulfed in flames in the area of the hood, and the fire had now spread into the passenger compartment. In addition, small amounts of fuel were leaking and had also ignited. Further assessment revealed that the adjacent residential building had so far been affected only by small amounts of smoke, which had entered through a tilted window. No injuries were apparent. The police arrived at the same time as the fire department.
The fire department quickly began firefighting operations and deployed crews wearing self-contained breathing apparatus, who used a fire hose to protect the adjacent barn from ignition due to radiant heat while also extinguishing the burning car. To extinguish the car, a foam gun was subsequently used to achieve a more effective and deeper penetration of the extinguishing agent. To counteract smoke buildup in the residential building, ventilation measures were also carried out using electric fans. Subsequently, the building was inspected in cooperation with the police. No affected individuals were found, nor were any critical carbon monoxide concentrations detected.
After the fire was extinguished, the spilled fuel was neutralized using a special oil-removal fluid, and the vehicle’s hood was opened with a spreader so that the engine compartment could be inspected using a thermal imaging camera. Once the car had cooled down to a safe temperature, the scene was handed over to the police.
