The Münchweiler, Gonbach, and Winnweiler fire departments were dispatched to a reported garden shed fire in Münchweiler. However, the first responders from the Münchweiler Fire Department quickly determined that it was not a burning garden shed, but rather a compost pile next to the shed that had caught fire.
By the time the fire department arrived, the owner had already extinguished the fire itself; the firefighters then inspected the compost pile using a thermal imaging camera and continued to cool it down to a temperature at which reignition could be ruled out. The police were called in to investigate the cause of the fire, and the scene was handed over to them shortly thereafter.
