Report

On Friday afternoon, numerous fire department units were dispatched to a round bale fire in the Leithöfe area. The first responders were able to confirm the report shortly after arriving. A total of 70 bales had caught fire.

Since the risk of the fire spreading was very low due to weather conditions, regional response teams from the municipalities of Rockenhausen and Otterberg were able to stand down shortly thereafter. To fight the fire, the bales were pulled apart during the operation with the help of local farmers. In addition, fans were used to accelerate the burning process, as this was the only way to prevent the fire from reigniting later. Later, a firefighter was able to pull the bales apart with the help of an excavator to allow for thorough extinguishing deep within the bales. Since the operation lasted several hours and was also very physically demanding, the Wartenberg Fire Department provided meals for the emergency personnel.

Since large quantities of water had to be drawn from the water supply system during the operation, the fire department consulted with the water utility. The police were also at the scene.
