Report
A local resident had noticed smoke rising in the area of the Celtic village in Steinbach from a distance and therefore contacted the Integrated Control Center via the emergency number, which then alerted the fire department. The fire departments from Steinbach, Börrstadt, and Winnweiler subsequently responded to the scene to assess the situation.
Shortly thereafter, the first responders from the Steinbach Fire Department reported back that they had located the scene of the incident. The heavy smoke was caused by a fire involving several bales of hay. The owner of the bales arrived at the scene shortly thereafter with his tractor and pulled them apart, allowing the firefighters to begin extinguishing the material. As the operation continued, the incident commander decided to allow the bales to burn out in a controlled manner using fans to prevent the fire from reigniting later. There were a total of 23 hay bales, which had to be painstakingly pulled apart and extinguished during the operation.
The police were also at the scene to begin an investigation into a possible case of arson. Once the response operations were completed, the scene was handed over to the owners.
