On Friday evening, a single-vehicle accident involving a passenger car occurred on the A 63 between the Winnweiler and Sembach interchanges in the direction of Kaiserslautern. The car veered off the road to the right, struck an emergency call box and the guardrail, and came to a stop across both lanes.
The Winnweiler Fire Department responded with its rescue unit and initially closed the highway completely and warned oncoming traffic. The emergency medical services were already on the scene when the fire department arrived and were attending to the vehicle’s occupant in the ambulance. After the police arrived at the scene and completed their accident investigation, the fire department was able to tow the crashed vehicle to the right lane and the shoulder, allowing the left lane to be reopened to traffic. In addition, spilled fluids were absorbed using absorbent material.
The highway was once again completely closed while a towing company removed the vehicle involved in the accident; afterward, the fire department was able to conclude its operation.
