The drone unit was dispatched to Gehrweiler to assist with a search operation in difficult-to-access terrain. For several hours, the sound of barking dogs could be heard on a steep slope. Since it was not possible to pinpoint their exact location—and to determine whether a person, possibly even an injured one, was on the slope—an aerial reconnaissance was the simplest course of action.
The drone made it possible to quickly locate the dogs. They were wandering without their owner and had become trapped in the terrain. The Gehrweiler Fire Department was then able to rescue the dogs and return them to their owner.
