Report

The Winnweiler Fire Department dispatched its rescue unit to the A 63 after a traffic accident occurred on the highway heading toward Mainz, between Winnweiler and Göllheim. The incident involved a passenger car towing a horse trailer, which had been rear-ended by a second passenger car. As a result, the trailer began to skid and tipped over, leaving it in the middle of the roadway when emergency responders arrived.

It was quickly determined that the drivers of both cars were uninjured, but the horse in the trailer sustained serious injuries. Firefighters initially closed the A 63 completely; later, traffic was rerouted past the scene via the left lane. A veterinarian was called to treat the horse, but unfortunately, the animal was pronounced dead. To reopen the roadway to traffic, the trailer was pulled to the side of the road using a winch—in coordination with the police—and debris was cleared from the roadway. Tow trucks were called for both the disabled vehicle and the horse trailer. Subsequently, the closure of the right lane was lifted, and the fire department personnel concluded their operation.
