Report
On Monday morning, the fire department was called to a traffic accident on the L401 at the turnoff to Langmeil, as fluids were reported to have leaked from the vehicles involved. The Imsbach and Winnweiler units were then dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival at the scene, it became clear that two passenger cars had collided and that the three people involved had already extricated themselves from the vehicles. They were initially cared for by medically trained firefighters until the emergency medical services arrived. In addition to an ambulance, a rescue helicopter (RTH) had also been dispatched. Consequently, this section of the L401 was initially closed to all traffic. An initial inspection of the vehicles and the roadway for leaking fluids revealed no issues. The vehicles were secured to prevent them from rolling away, and fire safety measures were implemented.
After the RTH left the scene, traffic heading toward Börrstadt was able to resume, but the lane heading toward Winnweiler remained closed for the time being, and traffic was diverted toward Langmeil. Once the police had completed their accident investigation, the vehicles were removed from the intersection, debris was cleared from the roadway, and spilled coolant was contained. The scene was then handed over to the police, and the fire department personnel were able to return to the station.
