Report
A gas line was damaged during construction work in Lohnsfeld. As a result, numerous emergency responders were called to the scene to assess the extent of the damage. In addition to the fire departments from Lohnsfeld, Münchweiler, Wartenberg-Rohrbach, and Winnweiler, the Gonbach unit—specializing in hazardous materials—and the Imsbach unit—responsible for managing the staging area—were also on site. Units from the hazardous materials squad beyond the municipal boundaries were also dispatched. Furthermore, a standby ambulance (B-RTW) was dispatched to the scene to be able to respond immediately to any medical emergencies that might arise during the operation.
Initially, securing the scene was the top priority, which is why the street was closed to traffic. The first responders on the scene took measurements at the leak site and immediately ensured fire safety. The municipal utilities were also already on site and conducted measurements in the surrounding buildings to assess the risk to residents. As the situation developed, it became clear that the residents’ water supply would need to be secured by installing a bypass line, which would extend the duration of the operation to approximately 3 to 6 hours. During this time, emergency responders continuously took measurements to monitor and assess the risk situation. Otterberger Straße and Kaiserstraße were completely closed to traffic for the entire duration of the operation.
After the necessary work was completed, the scene was handed back to the construction company, and the fire department concluded its operation after approximately 8 hours.
