A so-called chimney fire* broke out in Sippersfeld, prompting the fire departments of Sippersfeld, Breunigweiler, and Winnweiler to be alerted. Flames were clearly visible in the upper section of the chimney. The situation was critical because a chimney fire can quickly spread to nearby objects.
The interior of the building was therefore constantly monitored using thermal imaging cameras, while the fire department began sweeping the chimney with the help of the turntable ladder and another crew transported the hot embers outside. After the work was completed, a chimney sweep who had been called in inspected the chimney, and the fire department’s operation was concluded.
*Chimney fire: This is a fire caused by soot buildup on the walls of the chimney, usually resulting from incomplete or improper combustion and/or insufficient cleaning by a chimney sweep. This can result in temperatures of up to 1,200°C, posing a danger to the entire building. In addition, flying sparks can ignite other fires in the surrounding area.
